Help us make a difference

All are welcome to help in Gaining Ground's gardens!

Please click here to read our new Volunteer Guidelines for the 2011 season.

We are a volunteer-driven organization that relies on the energy, talent, and enthusiasm of hundreds of people.

We offer hands-on educational and community service opportunities for individuals and groups. Volunteering at Gaining Ground offers:

  • a chance to engage in meaningful work
  • knowledge of where food comes from and how it grows
  • a chance to see a variety of plant and animal life, and
  • a change of scene from your usual environment.

In 2009, volunteers contributed a record 7,500 hours of their time to work and learn in our gardens. Under the guidance of our professional farmer and her crew, volunteers helped us grow and give away over 23,000 pounds of fresh food for hunger relief.
