2008 Read For Seeds
Hundreds of students from Concord public and private schools are participating in Gaining
Ground's 5th Annual Read for Seeds read-a-thon this spring. They're
learning about organic farming and community service while helping others by raising money
for hunger relief.
Read for Seeds helps students make a difference in their own community–by reading. Students
collect pledges for the number of pages they read during a two–week period. The money they
raise helps buy the organic seeds that are at the core of Gaining Ground's farm. In the
end, these seeds become thousands of pounds of fresh organic produce that we give away to area
food–assistance programs and families and people in need.
Classes that participate in Read for Seeds also learn about organic farming, hunger relief, and
community service. And they volunteer in our garden, providing hands–on assistance to help
others. Thanks to everyone who is helping out with Read for Seeds!
